Clay Monster
Description:
For this project, student are asked to create a monster using clay. First students will practice wedging the clay to get the air bubbles out. Next, they will roll the clay into a ball, then they will press their thumbs in the middle and rotate to create a pinch pot. Using excess clay, students will sculp/carve details, such as eyes, teeth, spots and a tongue. Finally, they will use the slip and score method to attach their details.
Extension Activity:
This project could be integrated into a creative writing activity. For example, the student could write stories on a fictional monster, and use the project as an illustration. Therefore, students are using art to visualize their writing.
