Drawing - Name Grid Optical Illusion
Description:
For this project, students are asked to create an optical illusion with a name grid. First, students are asked to draw 5-7 vertical lines and 4-5 horizontal lines using a ruler and pencil. After the lines are drawn, the students draw their name/initials in bubble letters. Next, students choose a set of complementary crayons to color with. Complementary colors are used to emphasize the letters. Finally, using at least three colors, students will fill in each space with a different color (the same colors should not be touching).
Extension Activity:
This art project could be integrated into a math lesson. For example, students could create their own version of a paint by number project. In this approach, students could use what they are learning in math to create a "quiz" for a classmates by having them solve equations and using numbers to represent each color. Therefore, this a fun way to use art in a math lesson.
